Hiking the mountains of Austria!
Tonight we visited Anneliese Riedner who is a year older than we are...72 years young! She is a fit and fascinating member of our branch in Bruck. She told us about a group of women she hikes with in the mountains and meadows in the area around where she lives in St. Lorenzen. They have been hiking together for years They hike year round! The weather determines how far they hike and how long they are gone.
We asked her if she would take us on a similiar adventure. She said Yes! They begin hiking in the morning, take a lunch break and then return sometime in the afternoon. They hike to a Gasthaus in the mountains and the owner prepares trout that they raise there. It is not filleted, boned or skinned! You get the cooked whole fish served on your plate and you do the rest! After lunch Brunhilde, the owner performs wonderful Austrian folk songs from the region on her accordian and all the guests sing together! This sounds so fun! We asked her if she would take us hiking there. She said Yes!
People from all over Austria come to hike in this area to hike and lunch. On weekends many people hike these trails. That is why they go on Mondays because it is not as crowded. I am so excited! My friend Kathryn is planning on visiting us here in Austria sometime during the next two years. I can’t wait to tell her! Kathryn will be so excited to join with us! We have hiked a lot over the years in the mountains around SLC and are both passionate hikers. We can look forward to an adventure of a lifetime!
What a beautiful place to serve a mission! Sounds just like Sound of Music! I'm sure you will have a loving and calm influence on all you meet and teach and they will want to know more. You are in our prayers always. Take care.
