Ich spreche Deutsch!

 I am speaking German!  Granted, I have much to learn but I am so grateful that I can communicate! It is wonderful to understand what is being spoken for the most part as well.  I have asked Judd, and those around me to always correct my mistakes.  Our dear friend Luise said that I can always be understood.  She told us last night that she wanted to improve her ability to speak English.  After a short time she gave up because it was too difficult.  She told me she appreciates me speaking German because most foreigners don’t even try to learn the language!

Michael Korak (our new Branch President) and his sweet wife Ruth invited us to dinner and  asked me to give the blessing on the food Tuesday night.  He commented that he didn’t hear any mistakes.  He said some very kind things about my german. When I hear things like this... it is a motivation to me to keep learning and  speaking. I continue to say to people:  “Wir müssen Deutsch sprechen!” (We must speak German)  Most people are very willing to do so, even though they like to show off how well they speak English!

Judd told me that I am making progress with German everyday.  I appreciate that, especially coming from him.  Judd speaks German so well.  I appreciate him teaching me and helping me with my homework.  I say our morning couples prayer everyday in German. He always prays in German as well. 

I continue to have German lessons over Zoom every week at 6:00 PM on Thursdays with Heidi Collins.  Our lessons are so fun.  She is very patient and kind and challenges me but also makes it doable!  We have such a sweet friendship and I really look forward to my lessons.  I have the privilege of continuing lessons with here for six months.  That means I can continue to study through February!  I am super grateful that the church provides this service for senior missionaries.
