A peek at our apartment
This is our address until July of 2023:
Salzlaende 15/21
A-8700 Leoben
Austria
Some of you have been curious about our apartment in Leoben Austria. We live on the fifth floor of an apartment complex with eleven floors. From the balcony we enjoy a beautiful view of the mountains. At 8:00 AM every morning we begin our studies. We enjoy a wonderful view from large windows in our living room.
We actually live in a suburb of Leoben called Judendorf. This is a very quiet and safe place to live. Many young sister missionaries are called to serve in this mission. Austria has an extremely low crime rate. Young missionaries and senior couples have lived in our apartment for many years. This place is cozy and we are very comfortable here.
Recently we went through extensive repairs with the water pipes in our apartment. Our bathrooms were ripped up for over a week. We were without bathroom sinks for over a week! For days we only had water in our kitchen sink. Our apartment complex was build around 1930. It is fairly old but well taken care of. (Even though it was inconvenient, we need to remember we have it much easier than the pioneers did!)
I have wanted to make some friends in our apartment complex. It is wise to know your neighbors and it helps for security reasons. We like to have a friendly relationship with the people that we live by. I will continue to pray that we can make some friends here in our apartment complex.
We have enjoyed meals here with friends from our branch and plan to do so every sunday. Having a nice apartment in a good neighborhood makes it pleasant to entertain here. Last month we had our district council meeting and dinner here.
Judd bought a guitar when we arrived in Austria and he practices here everyday. The tenets above and below us can hear his violin and guitar playing but haven’t complained...thankfully!
We live on the fifth floor and I usually walk the stairs instead of taking the elevator. When we leave our apartment we walk down the five floors on stairs and on our return Judd joins me walking up the stairs from time to time. (My Fitbit and I celebrate when I walk my 10,000 steps... most days!)
At 8:00 AM we sit together facing our window with the beautiful view of the mountains and begin our studies together. Daily we read and study the Book of Mormon in German and English. We also study “Preach My Gospel”, “Adjusting to Missionary Life” and “Come Follow Me”. Judd also tutors me in the German language everyday. Right now I am learning grammar. Sometimes I feel like my brain is wading through molasses! Judd often reminds me that learning a language is good for the brain!
It is a wonderful blessing to serve in such a heavenly place. This is supposed to be the most beautiful region of Austria. We are learning fascinating things about Steiermark (which is the region of Austria that Leoben is located in.)
We are grateful to live here!
